Candle Care & Safety information
At SOHUM, we believe a beautifully fragranced candle should be enjoyed with care. Following these simple guidelines will help ensure a safe, clean burn and the best possible performance from your candle.

Before Lighting
- Always place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
- Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
- Keep candles away from curtains, furnishings, bedding, paper, and other flammable materials.
- Trim the wick to approximately 5mm before each burn. This helps promote an even flame, reduces sooting, and extends the life of your candle.
- Ensure the wax surface is free from wick trimmings, matches, dust, and other debris.
While Burning
- Never leave a burning candle unattended. Always burn candles within sight.
- Never use a candle as a night light.
- Keep burning candles away from drafts, air conditioning vents, ceiling fans, and open windows. Air movement can cause uneven burning, flare-ups, smoking, and excessive soot.
- Leave at least 10cm between burning candles.
- Do not burn a candle for more than 3 hours at a time.
- Never touch or move a candle while the wax is molten.
- If the flame becomes excessively large, flickers repeatedly, or produces smoke, extinguish the candle immediately. Allow it to cool, trim the wick, check for drafts, and relight when appropriate.
After Burning
- Always extinguish the flame completely before leaving the room.
- Ensure the wick has stopped glowing before moving away from the candle.
- Allow the candle to cool completely before relighting.
When to Stop Burning
- Never burn a candle all the way to the bottom of the vessel.
- Discontinue use when approximately 1–1.5cm of wax remains.
- Burning a candle beyond this point may cause excessive heat to build within the vessel, which can compromise the integrity of the glass.
Cedarwick Candles
Some SOHUM candles feature natural Cedarwicks. Like traditional cotton wicks, Cedarwicks require regular trimming and care. As a natural wood wick can produce a broader, more robust flame, it is important to follow all candle care and safety instructions to ensure safe enjoyment and optimal performance.
The information above applies to both Cotton Wick and Cedarwick candles.
Important Safety Notice
Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in personal injury, fire, or damage to property and belongings.
